Each year I usually end up tweaking my Christmas music a bit for my lessons and we tend to do a few Christmas songs like this in the primary schools I teach at. For the older students I might teach them something more advanced but this is still quite fun to play through and is a good sight reading challenge at the least.

I learned this song and recorded the guitar backing for this video recently and I would like to share the guitar chords with you, and also promote the youtube videos that I used to learn the song.
So for this version, I transposed the guitar chords up 4 semitones (up 4 frets) so that it fitted the vocalist’s range.
Below are the untransposed chords for the original version. As they are all barre chords, they were easy to move up 4 frets without a capo. There are no chords shown for the instrumental part, as this is skipped.

I actually wasn’t aware this is a Christmas song until a student mentioned their friend was learning it for a school piece. I think I did recognise it when I started to play it, but now I definitely will remember the tune (even if I did play a couple of the melody rhythms wrong, looking back at the music!).
I haven’t been playing classical guitar for very long at all. I picked up this guitar second hand from my local music shop and I really enjoyed playing it in the shop without it really registering with me that it’s a proper classical guitar… it just felt nice and I connected with it so I bought it. So this performance is not going to be a lesson in how to play classical guitar, but I hope it will encourage you to go and learn the tab or sheet music for yourself, because it’s not too hard, even for someone that hasn’t learned much classical guitar.
December really crept up on us this year, but I will take comfort that this page will go on to be viewed for years to come when hopefully it’s a lot jollier than here in 2020!
This sheet has been created so that beginner ukulele players can learn to play jingle bells using these easy to read chords. With it being digital, you might want to zoom in on the chords to learn them. If you are printing them off onto A4, the size of the chords won’t quite be as ‘easy reading’ but they still will be easier than some tiny chord boxes you might find on other sheets.
There are lyrics to go along with the chords, which should hopefully help with the first verse. Master that first and then you should find singing with verse 2 and 3 a bit easier.

The chords have been written out to be played with rhythm. This rhythm is aimed to be accessible for beginner guitar players and ukulele beginners.
Here’s a quick and easy melody to play on Christmas day that everyone knows. In the sheet music you will find the notation and guitar tab for playing the melody on guitar, ukulele or bass guitar. There are also chords above the melody, which can be played as an accompaniment.
Back in October (2016) my guitar student Snejana asked ‘Can we write a Christmas Song?’.
We liked it so much that we ended up recording it, and here it is!

Silent night is a public domain Christmas song.
The sheet music contains the guitar chords and ukulele chords for the song, along with sheets for the melodies too. There are also versions for piano, flute and violin.
There are only 3 chords needed: C, F and G.

This song is really great for working on chord changes. You don’t always find songs easily with the basic chords in (and no barre chords), but this song has a good selection of them. No capo needed either.
The chords featured in the song are as follows: A, B7, C, D, Em, G.
The chords are basic on both guitar and ukulele and can be learned by beginners. More intermediate or advanced players can develop the rhythm rather than doing single strums.
This is quite a majestic Christmas song – one of my favourites in the public domain. It is great for building up chord changing skills and for learning how to play simple melodies on the guitar and ukulele.
There are only 2 sections to the song. You can keep playing Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus for as long as you like.
